White Sands National Monument
White Sands National Monument is a United States National Monument that is in the southeastern region of the state of New Mexico. The monument contains the world’s largest gypsum sand dune field 275 square miles of fine white sand, formed by the prevailing winds into large ridge-like dunes.
White Sands became a national monument on January 18, 1933 by order of President Herbert Hoover. Efforts to preserve the area’s brilliant gypsum dunes had begun in the late 1800′s, but it was the enthusiasm of local booster Tom Charles that finally led to the park’s creation. In his words “gypsum may be divided into two classes – Commercial and Inspirational. The former everybody has, but as for recreational gypsum, we have it all. No place else in the world do you find these alabaster dunes with the beauty and splendor of the Great White Sands”.

Breathtaking Aerial Photography by George Steinmetz
George Steinmetz’s aerial photography is nothing short of astounding, especially when you realize that they’re taken from his paraglider.
Steinmetz, 51, has spent much of the last 12 years motoring above the African landscape in a gas-powered paraglider, engine and propeller strapped to his back, camera in both hands. His aerial images are deeply saturated with color, richly detailed, and struck with a perspective that you can only imagine as you stand on the ground and stare up at the birds. In dozens of stories for National Geographic and GEO and now in a gorgeous new book called African Air, Steinmetz has captured a view of the world that’s both documentary and art, with the rare ability to surprise and impress you at every turn of the page.
Horsetail Fall
Horsetail Fall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls of North America. It’s located in Yosemite National Park in California. Horsetail Fall is a seasonal waterfall that flows in the winter and early spring. There are a few days every February where this fall is lit up by the setting sun and reflects a bright orange.
When the natural conditions are just right, tourists can enjoy a unique spectacle where water turns into burning fire. During the last two weeks of February, when the sun shines above Yosemite Valley, and water pours down the granite wall, the firefall phenomenon takes place. But because clouds and storms are common during the winter months, and sometimes California has dry years, Horsetail Firefall can only be witnessed rarely, and timing is of the essence.
